THE performance was deliciously different, bringing audience participation and irreverence to music that generally features neither.
Graffiti Classics are a stand-up string quartet who defy categorisation - an enchanting combination of knockabout comedy and immaculate playing, with the four jostling for the limelight, occasionally being allowed to take centre stage.
It was a captivating programme of music at the Courtyard, from Romanian folk tunes to jazz, opera to a performance of Bach's Air on a G String that saw all four flat on their backs - still playing - with double bassist Cathal O'Duill all but flattened by his instrument and in need of a helping hand to get back on his feet.
Charm and chuckles were generously supplied even after the quartet left the stage, with the reappearance of the lugubrious O'Duill sidling back on to persuade the departing audience to part with cash for the group's CD.
