THE family of a young boy who nearly died after being kicked by a horse credit Megan Baker House with aiding his development.
Jobe Taylor-Davies was kicked to the side of his head by a horse in September 2012 and was in a coma for three weeks following the accident that happened at his family's farm in Brampton Abbotts, near Ross-on-Wye.
It was a very slow process of intensive care and the brain injury unit in Birmingham Children's Hospital which saw him eventually returned home with very limited movement.
His parents, Helen and Ben, said: "We heard about Megan Baker house through the Hereford physiotherapy team, but knew very little about conductive education and if it would be useful in Jobe’s rehabilitation.
"A pathway to independence is the strap line for Megan Baker and on reading this we were extremely keen for Jobe to live as independent life as possible by exploring every avenue available.
"After researching about conductive education we applied to Megan Baker, hoping that there might be a place available for Jobe to attend and knowing it to be a charity we were nervous that even though it would be ideal for him, there might not be the funds available to accommodate him."
Jobe attended an assessment and was offered a place at a morning session once a week.
He has now been receiving help from the charity for four years and his parents believe it has
provided him with the 'keystone' to his rehabilitation, through a very methodical series of challenges always set out in his termly report in which progress is recorded, measured and then presented in a progress report at the end of each term.
They have made the comments in support of our ongoing Project Chrysalis campaign – a bid to raise £35,000 to sponsor life-changing conductive education for 10 children for a year.
With your help, we have already raised several thousand pounds and each donation can potentially make a huge difference to the lives of other children like Jobe.
They added: "To say that Megan Baker is essential to Jobe’s continuing development is an understatement. Without their continuing support and ability to nurture his strengths whilst working on his weaknesses has allowed us to focus on the life that Jobe is able to lead along his pathway towards independence."
