A WOMAN who campaigns to improve the life of carers has received a CBE from Princess Anne.
Heléna Herklots, from Hay-on-Wye, was presented with the award for services to carers at Buckingham Palace recently.
Chief Executive of Carers UK since 2012, Heléna has worked for 25 years on ageing and older people’s issues.
From working with older people and their families in day centres and care homes, to campaigning for change, Heléna's role sees her developing and providing care and support services. Her personal experience and commitment to caring is at the heart of her approach.
Following the ceremony, she said: “It was such an honour to receive this award, and wonderful to share the day with my family. It has been a privilege to have worked with so many brilliant and dedicated people throughout my career.
"The Carers Movement is over 50 years old and in this time we have made huge strides in making a difference to carers’ lives, but there is still more work to be done. This award is recognition of the work of Carers UK and of the invaluable contribution that families and friends that support loved ones are making every day.”
