THIRTEEN-year-old Sophie Wyness hopes to sell Hereford on giving plastic bags the sack.
Sophie, who sits on the county's youth council, believes the city can go plastic bag-free and has won the backing of Sarah Carr, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Hereford.
The Lib Dem youth wing has already taken up the bag ban after Sophie brought it to them.
David Hurds, vice-chairman of Herefordshire Liberal Democrat Youth and Students, said: "The average adult uses 300 plastic bags a year and, on average, each bag is used for 12 minutes before being discarded." The campaign will promote single reusable bags made of recycled paper, card, jute and cotton.
