A VILLAGE pub which has been closed for four years and was under threat of being turned into a home has reopened.

Scott and Debbie Jagger have moved from Kent to open the Fountain Inn in Orcop Hill.

They had a tremendous response from the public when they held an opening night on December 9 and there was standing room only.

Scott said: "We just wanted to move out of Kent as it was getting too busy there.

"We wanted to come somewhere with a more relaxed way of life.

"We love it here. The people around here are amazing."

During the winter months the pub will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday from midday.

When spring starts they will open for longer hours and they will start to serve food earlier in the new year.

Scott added: "A village isn't a village without a pub, well to us it isn't.

"We had people in here on the opening evening who hadn't seen each other for a couple of years but who live in the same area.

"It will bring the village closer together."

The couple, who are 55, want it to be a traditional village pub.

They had to repaint it and refurbish the building before they could reopen it.

The previous owners wanted to turn the pub into a home but this was dismissed by Herefordshire Council in November 2014. The couple appealed the decision but this was also dismissed last September.
