THE wife of one of Australia's leading artists who established a trust in Presteigne has died aged 89.
Born Mary Boyd in 1926, Lady Nolan was the sister of the acclaimed 20th century Australian artist Arthur Boyd.
She was married first to John Perceval, before she married Sidney Nolan in 1978.
The couple moved to the Welsh border where in 1985 they established the Sidney Nolan Trust at the Rodd in Presteigne.
The trust was set up to fulfill Mr Nolan’s long-held plans to 'create a place in a rural setting for his own paintings and for music'.
He died in 1992, leaving Lady Nolan a widow.
Lord Lipsey, chairman of the Sidney Nolan Trust, said in a statement posted on the trust's website this week: "Mary Nolan was a huge supporter of the arts trust that her husband, the great painter Sir Sidney Nolan, set up at The Rodd near Presteigne in 1985.
"The trustees hope to honour her memory as well as his as it prepares to mark next year’s centenary of Sidney’s birth."
Lady Nolan died on April 6, surrounded by her loving family.
