A MISSION to collect Easter eggs for residents of Ross-on-Wye care homes has been hailed a success after 234 eggs were donated.

Sophie Fortey's, of Abbotsfield Funeral Directors, aimed to collect eggs for two of the town's care homes, but after being inundated with donations was able to expand her project further.

"Originally, I was collecting Easter egg donations for Weir End House & Woodpecker Lodge in Ross-On-Wye," said Sophie.

"They both provide support for individuals who have learning disabilities, mental health problems, autism and behaviours that challenge.

"The service they provide is able to give individuals a safe and homely environment, where they are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

"It wasn’t until Morrisons in Ross-On-Wye donated 50 eggs and a very close friend Michael Jones-Boyce and his parents donated 40 eggs, that I realised I needed to collect for more residential homes. I decided to stay with homes that help people in the same way."

After receiving so many donations Sophie was also able to donate Easter Eggs to Lammas Lodge, Tithe Barn & Stable Cottage, Chepstow House, Lyndale & Blackwells.

Sophie added: “I was totally overwhelmed with the support that I received from other supermarkets including Sainsbury’s in Ross and Tesco Belmont in Hereford, the community of Ross and also other family and friends across Herefordshire.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for helping these residents have an Easter filled with joy and lots of chocolate!”
