WORK to remove asbestos from Hereford's Library and Museum is set to begin next month.

Herefordshire Council announced today that it had received confirmation that the removal work at the Broad Street building would start on February 1.

It is expected to take five to six weeks to complete.

Plans to spend £86,000 on the removal were approved at December's cabinet meeting as well as a commitment to spend a further £900,000 on the library.

The council is now working with the Hereford Library Users Group to look at ways of providing an enhanced library facility and service for the people of Herefordshire.

The Users Group is currently discussing options with other stakeholders and will be responding to the council with its thoughts by the end of February.

A temporary library is currently in place at Hereford Town Hall on St Owen Street.
