FOLLOWING an amazing donation of 1,500 large knitted squares from local resident Mrs Janet Groves to Tenbury Wells WI, the craft group which is enthusiastically led by member Mrs Primrose Simpson, decided to sew them together to form blankets for the Calais refugees.
As Mrs Simpson also attends St Mary's Church, it was then decided to encourage a wider group of volunteers for this extremely worthwhile project which ultimately led to members of the town's Library knitting group also becoming involved.
This joint community effort has led to a total of a 17 full sized warm and colourful blankets being produced as well as 10 shawls, baby blankets and small cardigans and jumpers. In addition lots of teddies as seen 'posing' have been made for the children.
All of the items are to be boxed up and delivered to The Priory in Leominster, to be taken down by lorry to the camp in Calais. Tenbury WI has already sent two car loads of items of clothing etc towards the Priory's shipment.
If you are interested in joining the group or the WI itself please contact Primrose Simpson on 01584 811993 or the WI secretary Monica Rees on 01584 819254.
