LOVERS of choral music are in for a treat on Saturday, November 7, when Leominster Choral Society presents a programme of music by Hubert Parry and C.V.Stanford. This is also designed to celebrate the sound of the magnificent newly restored Nicholson organ in the Priory, which will be played by Jonathan Hope, including solos; Jonathan, the principal organist of Gloucester Cathedral, is becoming well-known in Leominster for his expertise, which is well-suited to this 75-voice choir. Also included will be a short talk about the organ by the musical director, James Atherton, who has also been part of the restoration team.
Highlights of this concert will be Blest Pair of Sirens and I was Glad by Parry, both for double choir, and Stanford’s wonderful Bb setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, also the Te Deum. Tickets are on sale at Fletcher’s newsagents, and the Tourist Office (Corn Square), as well as at The Outback in Hereford. The concert starts at 7pm.
