KNIGHTON'S BMX/skate park held a party in the park last weekend that attracted a large number of people.

There was music, competitions, refreshments, security markings for bikes and scooters provided by Police community support officers, a raffle, activities with the play rangers, car boot sale and more.

The Offa’s Dyke centre also provided refreshments, children’s crafts and a treasure hunt to mark the opening of their new child friendly café. Winners of the treasure hunt were Seth and Bea Cadwallader.

Lynsey Price who helped organise the event said “It was great to see people coming together today. The weather stayed fine and there was a great atmosphere. It always amazes me how generous people are in giving their time and energy for free. Many people don't realise that the park is run by volunteers and we are a charity of a local few who keep it running. Ongoing costs of the park are the lease, ROSPA inspections and maintenance costs etc all need fund raising for."

Lynsey thanked Mike Conway, Slip Disko, Play Rangers, Keith Easom, Knighton Builders Merchants, Kevan James, Tref y Clawdd Junior Rugby Team, The Recycling Group, Knighton Town Council, Powys County Council, Offa's Dyke Centre Pugh’s Butchers and Tuffins Mid Counties Co-op and everyone who helped out and came along to support them.

The event raised £229, which will cover the cost of this year's inspection. Competition winners were:

Scooter: 1st Alex Butler, 2nd Joe Stallard, 3rd Dexter Breakwell. BMX 1st Zach Lewis for the second year running, 2nd Liam Price, 3rd Tom Morgan. Skateboard: 1st Dave Bennett, 2nd Keith Easom, 3rd Zach Lewis. Raffle winners were Jamie Wyles, Helen Evans, Lee Davies, Jenny Barker, Adam Breakwell, Barry Traylor and Kirsty Lewis. Chris Davies won guess how many sweets in a jar.
