A LOCAL firm of solicitors has delivered its first donations in support of a charity-based initiative dedicated to providing local residents with emergency food resources during times of hardship and crisis.

Knighton-based PCB Solicitors is showing its support for the Knighton Food Bank (KFB) by offering its office as a food collection point, and encouraging clients and local people to donate dried and tinned goods as part of the initiative to eliminate hunger across the region.

The firm’s Knighton branch, The Old Butchers Shop, 1 West Street, will be offering a collection service Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

Pauline Davies of PCB Solicitors explained: “With research indicating the use of food banks in Wales is disproportionately high in relation to the population, the Knighton Food Bank is a vital safety net for those struggling to put food on the table and feed their families due to an emergency like redundancy or domestic violence. Recent reports also suggest 45% of food bank users require the service due to a delay or problem with the welfare system, with the initiative providing a vital short-term solution for those in need. The food bank aims to provide enough tinned and dried goods, fresh food, and, if required, essential toiletries for a three-day period.

“We wanted to show our support for the initiative and have opened our office to the public as a convenient collection point for people to donate food with long best before dates. We’d encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more information, or who may know someone in need of a food parcel, to look online at www.knightontown.net or get in touch with the food bank manager, Helen Anderson on 07731 524058, for more information and the criteria,” Pauline said.

Items can also be donated directly to the food bank at Norton Street Baptist Church on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 11.30am, and money to buy fresh foods is also needed.
