SHEILA Vickers is Hereford's mayoress for a month.

That's as long as she's back in the city she still calls home to see her brother made its 634th Mayor.

Charles Nicholls took up the title this week telling a mayor-making audience at Hereford Town Hall that: "As a child with no idea of his future I could not have imagined I would one day receive this great honour."

Sheila said that "never in her wildest dreams" did she think she would see her brother made of the city she left for Australia 48 years ago.

"He's done us proud," she said.

Sheila says she still calls Hereford home having grown up - and lived - in around the the city until emigrating to Victoria, Australia, with her husband in 1967.

In what's thought to be a first for the Mayoralty, Sheila will serve for a month as her brother's Mayoress before returning.

Then, the mayor's daughter Jenny Tawn takes up the title she also held last year.

The mayoral charities this year will be the Alzheimer’s Society and Riding for the Disabled.
