HISTORIC panels have been returned to a Herefordshire church following nine months of hard graft.
A project was set up early last year to restore the panels at St David's Church, in Little Dewchurch, after they had been found rolled up in the church tower.
Helped by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust and an anonymous donor, a team led by Ruth Bubb was chosen to carry out the work at her Oxfordshire workshop.
The painstaking task of removing 135 years' worth of grime started in May and has just been completed, along with a new design for hanging paintings on the wall to ensure damp would not affect them.
In September, a group of schoolchildren from Little Dewchurch visited the workshop to see what progress had been made and to learn about the materials being used.
The panels are now back in place behind the altar, much to the congregation's delight.
