HEREFORDSHIRE youngsters will be able to learn more about science in a family learning day at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery.

The Holmes Hines Memorial fund has awarded Hereford Museum and Art Gallery £750 to run a family learning day on Saturday, and five free science sessions for schools.

During the family day, called Know Your Newtons, children will make their own force meter using a cotton reel, dowelling, an elastic band and a paper clip. They will then calibrate their force meter using different masses and measure forces in air and water.

Siriol Collins, heritage learning officer, said: "The Know Your Newtons day promises to be both educational and fun.

"Children always love making their own force meters and they can take them home afterwards and conduct their own experiments."

The free sessions are being held at 10.30am until 11.15am, noon until 12.45pm and 1.30pm until 2.15pm. The sessions are limited to 60 children and must be booked in advance by calling Natalie Jolley on 01432 383585.
