A HEREFORDSHIRE woman who dedicated her life to helping others has celebrated turning 100.
Gwynneth Rock, who became a centenarian on Monday, grew up in Gladestry and attended Lady Hawkins school in Kington.
In her late teens or early twenties she moved to Moccas with her family – her dad was a clergyman – before training as a nurse.
Much of her life was spent caring for others, nursing in London during the war and later in Kenya before returning back to the county in the 1940s.
Back in Herefordshire she was a district nurse until she retired to Leominster in 1986 where she now lives in Townsend Court.
It was there that she celebrated her special birthday with friends and family as the first resident to turn 100.
Great niece, Meg Thorpe, said: "She's always looked after and cared for other people and has always had a tremendous sense of humour.
"She's just a great person to be with really because of her humour and her interest in what's going on."
Mrs Rock was also an avid reader and loved the written word. She was passionate about Herefordshire and while at school enjoyed croquet.
