A HGV has spilled 15,000 litres of heating oil and has lost its load of logs, forcing the closure of the A4103 near to Shucknall for six hours.
The fire and ambulance services attended after 1pm today, making the scene safe, and working with Western Power to shut off overhead power lines.
The environmental agency are also on hand to assess the potential problems associated with the spilled oil and help oversee a clean up.
The fire service - who have dispatched their own specialist environmental protection unit - anticipate the road to be shut off for six hours.
