MUSIC ON THE MEADOW - Wellington residents are preparing to support four hospice staff who are asking their village to go all out on Saturday for St Michael’s Hospice Once in a Lifetime appeal. For this year only the popular village event picnic in the park has become music on the meadow, to raise funds for the much needed new hospice building.

As usual, people are asked to join together with family and friends and bring along their picnic, together with tables, chairs, blankets, gazebos and anything else needed for a comfortable summer night out. The WI members will be supplying delicious puddings from their always popular pudding tent. Bring your own drinks, but there’s a bar with beer, cider, wine and soft drinks available too for your convenience.

Music will continue through the evening, with something for everyone to enjoy. Starting with Red River Blues, a danceable six piece band blending upbeat blues with elements of jazz, rock, country and folk, then moving on to soothing sounds from Wellington’s own acoustic/ vocal duo Stephanie Best and Marc Willimont. Then Herefordshire’s DJ Roddy Hankins will be handed the baton, bringing along his guest band Neon Mistress to play rock classics. The four staff aim to raise at least £3,000, and invite anyone with a heart for the Hospice to join Wellingtonians at this event. Come to Wellington playing fields behind the school on Saturday, starting at 7pm till late. More information from Lyn Bavin on 01432 830168. Entry is available at gate on the night. The suggested donation to the hospice for the evening’s entertainment is £10 per adult guest, with under 18s at your discretion. If there is heavy rain the event will be set up in the community rooms adjacent to the playing fields.
