HEREFORD United fans overwhelmingly gave the thumbs up for a supporters trust to be formed following an open meeting at the Richmond Club last night.
A packed audience listened to plans that the steering group has in setting up the trust, with the aim being to ensure that fans will have more of a "voice" of the goings on at the Edgar Street club.
The group added that there could be an opportunity for the trust to be part of the Hereford United board.
"We want this club to survive and grow," said Jon Hale, spokesman for the steering group.
"It has been well documented that there has been a 15 year cycle of financial problems at the club.
"Fans have drifted away and interest has waned.
"The supporters need a voice in the club and all fans of this club should be heard."
Kevin Rye, from Supporters Direct, explained that there are now more than 120 supporters trusts in England and there is an opportunity for them to be part of a club's board of directors.
Representatives from Kidderminster Harriers and Newport County also spoke about how supporters trusts have worked there.
Jon said that Hereford United chairman David Keyte is happy for the group to look at the possibility of setting up a trust, which could include representation on the board, while the trust could easily work with the Hereford United Independent Supporters Association (HUISA).
The meeting also included a passionate speech from former Hereford United player Gareth Davies.
Gareth said that he agrees that one of the reasons why support has drifted away from the club is because there is a lack of local players coming through.
"I love this club and have been watching them for 35 years," he said.
"We have to look at youngsters from this area who will have the passion of wearing the shirt.
"We have too many loan players coming in.
"Kevin Sheedy was my cousin and we need young players to come here and play like Sheedy.
"I have got two boys in the youth system here and the oldest is going to play for Hereford United.
"He has got four of five Premiership clubs who are after him, but he ain't going to play for them, he is going to play for Hereford.
"It is my way of giving something back."
Gareth added that there has been too much negativity from supporters on social media sites during the past three years and everyone has to work in tandem and get rid of the "egos and agendas" to ensure that Hereford United is a better club for many years to come.
The steering group is due to meet the London Bulls on June 1 and it is hoped that the Supporters Trust could be set up in two months.
