HEREFORD is officially the safest place to live in the country, according to a national survey.

Rightmove quizzed people on twelve separate measures about the place they live, covering their home (investment, well-being, pride and costs) their community (safety, amenities, recreation and neighbourliness) and their property (décor, space, contentment and value).

And it seems that people in Hereford feel the safest in their home because the city came top out of 110 places surveyed across the country.

It also came out reasonably well in the contentment (19th), space (32nd) investment (36th) and cost (44th) categories, but lagged behind in décor (97th) and neighbourliness (80th).

Hereford therefore finished in an overall position of 68th (just behind Liverpool, but ahead of Cardiff) and 5th out of 11 regions surveyed in the West Midlands.

Worcester won the regional category, with Harrogate in North Yorkshire coming out on top in the UK.

Meanwhile, East London was deemed to be the unhappiest place to live in the country, with Dudley coming bottom in the West Midlands.
