A TREE has been planted in memory of a Hereford teenager who died on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate.
Friends and family of Jason Jones, who died after an accident while he was riding his scrambler bike, marked what would have been his 17th birthday by planting a Japanese cherry tree.
"I am delighted we can honour Jason's memory in this way," said his mum, Lin.
"The tree will be seen by many youngsters who knew Jason and act as a timely reminder of the dangers of riding their motorbikes on public roads."
It is also hoped the profile of Jason's memorial trust will be raised by the tree, which was planted outside the family home in Holme Lacy Road.
The trust was set-up to provide an off-road site for young people to ride motorbikes safely.
After Jason's death, more than 5,000 people signed a petition and raised £5,600 to build a track.
Peter Ferneyhough, a family friend, is also offering a commercial unit at a reduced rate to try to tempt interested parties to set up in an indoor sports centre in Jason's memory.
