A HEREFORD youth has admitted stealing meat from a supermarket less than a week after he was released from prison.

Daniel Jamie Jones, aged 19, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing three sirloin steaks worth £21.98 from a Hereford Co-op store last Thursday.

Rebecca Edmonds, defending, said Jones had been staying with friends after being released from prison on November 2.

"Mr Jones is trapped in a vicious cycle because each and every time he comes out of custody he is homeless," she said. "He is going to various friends who have the same problems from which he is trying to escape."

Magistrate Chris Hillyard made Jones the subject of a conditional discharge for 12 months.

He said: "This is not a let-off. We are trying to put you in a position where you can get on with your life and stop bothering society."
