HEREFORD Cathedral will be full of festive cheer when it hosts The Spirit of Christmas, a candlelit carol service, on Wednesday, December 13, at 7.30pm to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Hereford schoolboy Josh Dovey, who has muscular dystrophy, and Canon Val Hamer will be opening the concert by lighting the first candle in the cathedral and helping the congregation to light theirs.

A massed choir of children from Stagecoach Theatre Arts Hereford, Malvern and Ledbury will lead the service. The programme will include both traditional and modern readings such as Angels Song by Charles Causley and A Christmas Package by David McCord.

Solo items will include Walking in the Air, The Dormouse's Carol and traditional pieces from the Ukraine and Germany. There will also be plenty of congregational carols.

It is the third year the concert has been held and the people of Herefordshire raised more than £4,000 last year. That money and the money raised from this year's service will help fund research, information and care for people with muscular dystrophy and other related conditions.

Tickets are available in the following price bands: £12.50 gold; £10 silver; £7.50 bronze and £5 unreserved.

They can be booked by calling 01452 504 907 (9am-1pm & 5pm-8pm, Mon - Fri) or email tickets@spiritofchristmas.org.uk
