TWO of Britain's leading early music virtuosos have chosen the tiny, ancient church of St Michael at Discoed to launch their new CD.

David Ponsford, one of Britain's best-known harpsichordists, and recorder maestro Alan Davis have recently recorded the complete Handel Recorder Sonatas for Guild Records.

As part of St Michael's 2006 Candlelit Concert Series, David and Alan will perform a programme of Music in Handel's London. In addition to Sonatas by Handel himself, the duo will perform his Harmonious Blacksmith and a selection of well-known and rarer works that might have been heard in the capital in the early 18th century, by Henry Purcell, his younger brother, Daniel Purcell, Andrew Parcham and Charles Francois Dieupart.

Tickets for the candlelit concert which takes place this Saturday can be booked on 01547 560369. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
