KIND-hearted Wollaston twins were able to raise almost £750 towards a new RNLI lifeboat as they took part in a charity walk to Birmingham.

Jacob and Noah Partali, aged 11, were sponsored by friends to walk the 12-and-a-half miles from their home to Birmingham Library in Centenary Square.

From the event the boys were able to raise £748 towards their favourite charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and the purchase of a new lifeboat for the group’s volunteers in Barmouth.

Jacob said: “It took us five and a quarter hours to complete the walk with just two stops. It was tiring but we were determined to do it.” While Noah added: “We are now looking forward to being able to go and see the new lifeboat in Barmouth in the summer.”

The boys, who have both been members of Academy Martial Arts, in Bagley Street, since they were six, took on the challenge to gain their black belt fifth star – the orange star for charity – having already achieved the other four stars for various martial art disciplines.

Their father, Loucas Partali, said: “The boys were fantastic. They really wanted to do this. My wife Sarah and I walked with them and they kept us motivated.

“We are very proud of them – it’s a great achievement.”

Chris Fonteyn, RNLI Stourbridge branch chairman and honorary life governor of the RNLI, said: “We are very grateful to Jacob and Noah for raising this incredible amount of money which will help the RNLI’s volunteer crew members at Barmouth, a very popular holiday and day trip destination for many families from the Midlands, save lives at sea for many years to come.

“The fact that they organised the walk, encouraged sponsors to back them, and collected the money themselves makes this all the more laudable.

“We shall ensure that the boys and their family are able to visit the station and the new lifeboat as soon as possible.”

The new lifeboat, a D Class inshore lifeboat, will cost £48,000 and is expected to go on station in August this year.
