GOLFERS from across European headed to Herefordshire last weekend for a tournament which also featured celebrities.
Former European Tour winner Carl Suneson came out on top in the two-day competition held at Kington Golf Club
The European Players Tour is rapidly expanding and the field featured many European Tour or Senior Tour winners competing against quality amateurs and celebrities.
This time Kington also welcomed former Ryder Cup captain Mark James and Ryder Cup player Steven Richardson.
The golf club said: “All were very complementary about the condition of the course given the recent months of rainfall.
“The players loved the unique challenge of the course and the fast greens, and many planned to return with friends in the near future.”
In windy conditions victor Suneson played each round in 67 to win the overall 36-hole event.
Kington member Tom Ammonds and club Professional Keith Preece were representing the golf club, both very played well, with Ammonds finishing a very creditable eighth place overall.
The golf club added: “The Tour organisers were delighted with the way Kington GC hosted the event and appreciated the support of the volunteers and spectators. They plan to return for another 36-hole event on September 4 and 5.
“Kington have also just been voted the Best Value Golf Club in England by National Club Golfer magazine.
“This recognition and the positive reaction from those at the European Players Tour event is great for Kington GC but also for local hotels and other businesses to showcase what Herefordshire has to offer.”
