GOLFERS on two Herefordshire courses have chipped in to help a Hereford charity.

The Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their hair to cancer treatment, was the beneficiary of the events at the Herefordshire Golf Course and at Burghill Valley.

The first event was a stableford competition at Wormsley that was organised by Rob Silcox, Principal of Silcox Financial Planning, and Matt Davies from The Online Accountant.

The winning four-ball was made up by Emyr Saer, Glyn Biffen, Brendan O’Brien and Andrew Weston – four men who are very familiar with the course.

The fundraising competition for the Berrington Street-based organisation came two days before Burghill Valley Golf Club’s new captain announced that his chosen charity for the year would be The Little Princess Trust.

Pete Griffiths told fellow member that he knows the founder of The Little Princess Trust personally before thanking all those who would be taking part in his Captain’s Drive to raise valuable funds for a good cause.

Phil Brace, chief executive of The Little Princess Trust, thanked all the golfers at the two county courses who generously raised valuable funds to help the charity’s free wig provision service and its funding of childhood cancer research.

 

Meanwhile, Ross-on-Wye Ladies recently held their Autumn Meeting competition which bookends their summer season of tournaments.

The Josie Powell Trophy was won by Kerry Welding who had an impressive combined gross score of 172 made up of a gross 90 in the Spring Meeting and 82 in the Autumn meeting.

Thirty-five ladies played in the 18-hole stableford competition run concurrently at the Autumn Meeting and the winner was Helen Palmer with 38 points.

In second place was Kerry Welding on countback from Allison Charles with 36 points.

Diane Martin won The Bronze Lady Trophy with 30 points. Nearest the pin on the 7th hole was Jenny Reeve-Tucker and on the 12th hole Hannah Keir.

Six ladies played in the nine-hole stableford competition which was won by Marie-Anne Belton with 19 points, closely followed by Mabel Day with 18 points. In third place was Frances Nightingale with 17 points.

Katie Stooke the current lady captain held her Charity Open Bowmaker Coffee Morning on October 24.

This was a fun nine-hole competition where members invited friends to come and play at Ross followed by afternoon tea.

Stooke’s chosen charity this year is West Midlands Air Ambulance and she was delighted to have raised just over £1,000 from the ladies who participated in the golf and supported the raffle, cake stall and various other stalls.

Ros Ashton’s team came first out of 22 teams, with 43 points, closely followed by Dinah Johnston’s team with 42 points. In third place were Jose Wilson, Rosemary Williams and their guest with 37 points.
