A HEREFORDSHIRE golf club has been flying the flag for the county in a new national golf knockout competition.
Leominster GC were the last remaining Herefordshire club reaching the last-16 of the inaugural 2022 British Inter-Clubs Mixed Team Championships that attracted entries from all corners of the UK.
Getting to the last-16 stage Leominster beat Worcester GC 5-0 in round one, Worlebury GC 3-2 in round two and Wishaw GC 3-2 in the third round.
Their reward was a last-16 place and the last four of the Southwest region with a tough visit to Wales’ Mond Valley GC.
Unfortunately that’s where the road ended for the Herefordshire side suffering a 4-1 defeat.
Postponed from last year, the championships were played on a knockout basis with the four regional winners qualifying for the national finals in Portugal taking place in November.
Event director Kath Tusler said: ”Mixed golf has increased in popularity in recent times and the competition aims to mirror the success of the national men’s and women’s team club competitions that have been running for many years
“Clubs are enjoying the chance to play some competitive mixed golf against different clubs and we look forward to even more Herefordshire clubs taking part next year.”
Entries for the 2023 championships open in September but clubs can pre-enter by emailing info@mixedgolfevents.com
