DESPITE only recently returning to golf Tim Harrison was an instant success at Ross Golf Club winning a Christmas Stableford competition.
The men's seniors aged 55+ section event saw 93 entrants take part over the customary 16 holes .
When Harrison joined the club just a few weeks ago, little did he consider that his play would so soon be worthy victory.
Despite having been away from the game for over 40 years, Harrison was able to recapture some of the form that he first discovered as a young man when he played at the Leominster GC and Kington Golf Club's respectively.
Harrison's effective play resulted in a 39-points score which proved just enough.
While Roger Bennett, Terry Filtness and David Webb also carded praiseworthy 39 points scores, Harrison's superior back nine holes play made him the 'Christmas Champion' on count-back.
As a dedicated Crystal Palace FC fan who are affectionately known as the 'Eagles', Filtness will be aware how the 'ups & downs' that sport can produce and this was also reflected in his 39 points achievement.
Filtness will reflect fondly that his efforts included an eagle three at the club's par-five fifth hole to accompany the birdie three achieved on the par-four 15th hole.
This meant that almost 25% of his prize-winning points score came thanks to his remarkable performances on just two of his 16 holes played. Other noteworthy performers on the day were Robin Henderson-Pugh's 38 points and 37 points scores by Adrian Hope, Barry Norton and Dave Morris.
Recently elected Ross Seniors Captain Wref Digings, paid tribute to all those who added to the occasion.
Members wholeheartedly endorsed and supported the opportunity to 'help others' where part of their entry fee went towards a raffle for how far Wref's drive-in reached.
This meant that a half-share will benefit Wref's chosen worthwhile charity which is Assistance Dogs UK responsible for the highly specialised training of assistance dogs to support disabled people and those with medical conditions in a wide variety of ways.
The Ross Seniors valued first tee project which should see its completion in 2022 received the other half-share.
As regards Wref's Drive-In recorded at 183 yards, this meant that Roger Bennett was presented with his second major prize of the day and also one for Malcolm Thornton.
