ROB Bengry ran over a last minute try as Luctonians Colts secured the North Midlands Cup following a dramatic 20-19 victory over county rivals Hereford.

A physical first period saw defences largely on top, but both sides mustered a score with Luctonians converting theirs to hold a slender 7-5 lead at the break.

The lads from Wyeside began to get on top from the beginning of the second period and their speedy backs always looked a threat. Hereford's dominance was justly rewarded as well in the shape of two tries either side of a Lucs penalty in response.

The second score, an excellent individual effort from Will Samuels, gave Hereford a 19-10 lead with less than 20 minutes to go.

On a very hot day, Hereford started to tire and all of a sudden the men from Mortimer Park began to grow in stature.

Strong running from Joel Middleton allowed space for Cameron Gough to cut the deficit to four points, before a crazy end to the game ensued.

With time up on the clock and Hereford in possession the ball was kicked straight back to Luctonians instead of off the pitch sparking the start of around seven minutes of extra time.

During this period Hereford saw two players sent to the sin bin for infringements, and eventually the weight of pressure was too much, as Bengry crashed over in the corner to send the North Midlands Cup back to North Herefordshire.

The Colts success caps a very positive end to the season for Luctonians as a club, with their 2nd Team capturing the Midlands Reserve League Cup last weekend with a 35-14 victory over Newport and their U15s winning the North Midlands Plate Final 24-10 against Hereford.
