LUCTONIANS players believe they can complete a remarkable bid for safety which will require them taking maximum points from their final two league matches.

With their relegation rivals now having completed their fixtures the Mortimer Park side know that bonus point wins at Leicester Lions this weekend and at home against Champions Sale on May 12 will secure their safety in National League 2 North for another season.

Last weekend saw Luctonians secure their third victory on the bounce and just their eighth all season with an emphatic 12-try 76-12 victory over basement side Sheffield.

Despite the visitors taking an early lead through Lewis Bowman after 12 minutes the hosts soon replied through former Worcester Warriors hooker Jordan Page scoring his second try of the season.

Sheffield were dealt a further blow when Dominic Parsons saw red for foul play.

With Luctonians pushing forwards Page scored his second try from a rolling maul, a penalty try followed by a Rob Crowley score to put his side 28-7 ahead at half-time.

Ryan Watkins' side opened the floodgates in the second half with Sam Jones and Piers Morrell adding further tries before Joe White drove over and winger Josh Watkins ran over two long distance efforts.

Tom Jones added his name to the try-sheet twice before Frank Kelly completed the rout late on.

"It could have been better to be fair and we left a few chances out there," said Luctonians hooker Page.

This weekend Luctonians head to Leicester knowing that anything short of a victory and scoring four or more tries will see them relegated.

"It's achievable and if we don't believe then there is no point in trying," added Page.

"We will give everything we have got and give it our best shot as it's definitely do-able. Leicester are a big and physical so it will be a tough game. Hopefully the sun will come out and the backs will run free."
