RYAN Watkins is relying on other results going his way and his Luctonians team picking up maximum points from their remaining three matches.

Watkins' side face basement Sheffield this Saturday at Mortimer Park (3pm) and will be hoping relegation rivals Wharfedale fail to pick up maximum points in their final game of the season.

Due to a winter of poor weather Luctonians could have the final say as they play their final two fixtures after their rivals have completed theirs.

Luctonians kept their hopes of survival alive last weekend with a 24-10 victory at Otley with Frank Kelly scoring the opening try before the hosts replied only for Thomas Jones to cross the whitewash either side of half-time.

"We are getting a few wins at the moment which we needed to do earlier in the season but we're hanging in there," said Watkins.

"We put in a really top performance at Otley and it was not what a relegation threatened team looked like. I was really impressed with the boys although the other teams don't have as much to play for as us.

"It's frustrating as we could have picked up this consistency with results a long time ago. We played some good territory rugby putting our opponents in the corner and played some good stuff.

"The pressure has got the best out of them (the players) and it's disappointing that it's taken this position for us to be at our best and we will keep fighting. We need three bonus point wins and we are relying this week on is Wharfedale not getting maximum points as if they do get five points that will be the end of us.

"We have to do what we can and Sheffield are bottom of the league and lost 75-14 last weekend so hopefully we can do the same.

"People know what's at stake so we are hoping for a lot of supporters, a decent day and good rugby."
