LUCTONIANS gave themselves a life-line in the battle against relegation with a last ditch 33-32 victory over Hinkley.

The Kingsland side looked to be heading to a sixth straight defeat until a last minute Josh Watkins try gave them a vital win in their search for National League 2 North safety.

Ryan Watkins' side head to relegation rivals Blaydon this weekend in a crunch tie with Luctonians sitting five points behind the hosts but with two games in hand.

With seven games remaining Watkins is confident his side can beat anybody in the league and rescue their safety.

"The table looks worse than it should do but we are seven points from safety and have got two games in hand, said Watkins.

"There is a lot more to play for and we will be looking to carry through that support. With the squad we have to choose from we will be hard to beat.

"We have got eight losing bonus points against top of the table teams which shows we can clearly play against better teams but it's about taking our chances and seeing off those teams.

"In another year we could be sat in the top four but we have just come short. The bottom three is tight but I'm confident if we stick at what we're doing we can stick in that race."
