HEREFORD RFC captain Tom Ewins felt his team were let down by the backs as they slumped to a 33-5 home loss to Midlands 1 West leaders Dudley Kingswinford.

The Wyesiders were second best throughout the game and Ewins says they will aim to correct their mistakes in training this week.

"They wanted the win more than us and came out firing, putting us on the back foot straight away," said Ewins.

"We got good ball control from lineouts and scrums, but were let down by the backs who don’t seem capable of breaking the line much this season.

"We shall have to work on that in training over the next couple of weeks.

"Rhys Procter, from the colts, played well when he came on from the bench, giving us some go forward.

"I thought Gareth Jones and Ollie Hutcheson also had good games and it was unfortunate that in the first 20 minutes we went down 14-0 and had to chase the game.”

Dudley Kingswinford added a further converted try before the interval before adding another score after the break to secure their bonus point.

Hereford's backs then showed more energy and Hutchinson touched down for a consolation try before DK added a final five pointer that was converted.

The Wyesiders will aim for a much better result this Saturday when they host Stourbridge Lions in a rescheduled game.

Elsewhere, Ledbury enjoyed a thumping 47-19 win over Dunlop to keep alive their hopes of promotion from Midlands 3 West (South), while tries from Bobby Ralph and Alex Parker were not enough for Bromyard, who lost 25-17 at Manor Park.

Ross-on-Wye meanwhile continued their relentless march to promotion from Gloucester 2 with a crushing 78-15 win at Bishopston.
