HEREFORD Rugby Club have a new head coach.

Sean Lynn works at Hartpury College and coaches their successful university side.

He has also been involved with the Gloucester Academy set-up, as well as playing or Cinderford, and heard about Hereford due to working with Wyesiders assistant coach Luke Fisher.

“Luke told me what a good club Hereford is and when I came down I liked what I saw," said Lynn.

"I know it is a club keen to develop and which has a lot of talented youngsters for me to work with in the on-going development of the club.

"I have a certain style which I like to play, but I’ve just got to make sure it’s right for the players.

"I am really passionate about playing expansive rugby, but making sure that the set pieces are spot on is key and initially I shall focus on getting the set pieces right”."

Fisher is delighted with the acquisition.

"It is brilliant getting such a top-quality coach with his playing and coaching experience, the players are really loving him and I’m sure he is going to take the club in the right direction," said Fisher.

"I’m looking forward to working alongside him on a club level and not just as a work colleague."

Hereford start their pre-season campaign with an away trip at Old Patesians this Saturday before facing Talywain at home the following week.

The league season starts on September 2 with a home match against Stoke.

On the playing front, Jock Welch has returned to Ledbury while Richard Preece has retired.

The newcomers are mainly last year's colts who have made the step up

"The club is looking to create a new role within the structure of the club to specifically recognise the strength in the youth and colts section to recruit into the senior squad," said Hereford press officer Rob Davies.

"To work with the senior club coaches, with the objective of bringing consistency and quality of playing standards through the youth and colts sections and with a particular view to facilitating the seamless movement of players between the colts and the senior teams.

"This will include working to support and develop the coaching capability and style of the youth section coaches where it is requested or needed."
