A SHOOTER who lives in north-west Herefordshire was on target during a regional tournament.

Lucy Pitt, who is based in Lingen and went to Wigmore High School, competed in the English Open Sporting Championship at the West Midlands Shooting Ground in Market Drayton, north Shropshire.

The five-day event saw several hundred seniors and more than one hundred women competing.

She said: "I shot my round on Saturday morning.

"Having heard that the leading woman was on 95/120 targets, I managed to shoot a 100/120 to put myself five clays ahead and win the event."

Pitt is now the English Open Sporting Ladies Champion having clinched the biggest achievement of her career in the UK to date.

She achieved the title by using cartridges from her new sponsor 'Hull Cartridge'.

Pitt is now off to the European Championships in France later this month before tackling the World Championship in Italy in July, but will be shooting as an individual this year rather than in Team GB.

She is also in the process of trying to qualify for GB for next year and is in the middle of qualifiers for shooting for Wales in two different disciplines in September.

Last August we reported that Pitt had helped Great Britain shoot to the top of the world during the World FITASC Sporting Championships in Minnesota, USA.

She was a member of a three-woman team that stormed to success in the women’s team clay pigeon event.
