HEREFORD Cathedral School pupil Lily Wargen is on top form after taking two medals home from the Scottish Open Taekwondo competition in Motherwell.

The Year 10 pupil said she was shocked when she took the gold medal in the girls’ 14-17 black belt patterns category.

“I was disappointed with the silver – I felt I could have done better in the sparring," she admitted.

This has been a good year for 15-year-old Lily; she also won gold and silver at the ITF Welsh Open earlier this year.

Competing in national tournaments is part of Lily’s preparation for hopeful selection as a member of the ITF England team and competing at next year’s European Taekwondo Championships in Liverpool.

Lily was selected to represent ITF England at the last two European championships in Greece and Italy and she won two bronze medals in the latter event.

The teenager, who trains at Cardiff University Taekwondo Club, said she is dedicated to the sport and is a 2nd dan black belt following more than 10 years of training.
