IT has been a family affair at two county taekwondo clubs after seeing their members perform well in the sport.

Hereford Tae Kwon Do Club's Jo and Charlie Canton-Smith both came home with medals at a North Midlands contest held at the Velodrome in Derby, while mother and son Georgiana and Josh Baxter, who train at White Phoenix Tae Kwon Do Bromyard, have been awarded black belts.

The Canton-Smiths, who are also mother and son, ensured their club claimed an impressive haul of medals.

It was the first time the venue has been used and was a warm up for the forthcoming British championships where up to 1,500 competitors are expected.

Jo also came away with another two silvers making it six medals from two competitions, while Charlie also added another silver.

Jo's gold medal came in the power test, while her silver gongs were in ladies yellow belt parring and tag teams.

Charlie won gold in tag teams, with a silver claimed in yellow belt sparring.

Gintare Stockute also carried on her impressive form this year by coming away with another two medals.

She has won gold in five of her her competitions this year and gained medals in the other two.

Other students who came away with medals at the North Midlands competition were Suzette Botha, Ewan Withers and Namking Choksawat.

Meanwhile, the Baxters gained their black belts by Master Willi Lim, 8th Dan, and Master Kevin Summers, 7th Dan, at the IMA autumn grading in Malvern.

Both were successful after a gruelling three-hour grading consisting of patterns, sparring, self defence and destruction.

Both train with Nicky Rawle, 4th Dan, at Queen Elizabeth Humanities College in Bromyard.
