ROSS-ON-WYE are off the bottom of the GoCrea8 Hockey League De Cymru & the Marches 1 Division after beating fellow strugglers Hereford 2-1.

Jonny Cross opened the scoring for Ross following a short corner before Luke Ward hit a reverse low ball that went in off a post.

Hereford started to play some good hockey after the break and pulled a goal back through Andy Rogers with 10 minutes to go.

But Ross held firm for the win.

At the other end of the table, Leominster escaped with a 2-2 draw at Lansdown thanks to a fine performance from goalkeeper Nathan Fletcher.

The Earl Mortimer College student made a string of fine saves to ensure Leominster maintained their unbeaten start to 2018.

Lansdown took the lead before Leominster hit back through goals from Jack Rowsell and Barney Morgan.

Lansdown then equalised with 10 minutes to go.

Hereford Ladies Seconds were also celebrating after picking up their first win of the season against Lansdown Seconds in Severn Division 1 of the West Clubs' Women's League, while the firsts maintained their four point lead at the top of North Division following a 2-0 win at Newent Seconds.

Elsewhere, Ross-on-Wye saw off Gloucester Fourths 3-0 in Severn Division 2, while Colwall & Malvern drew 1-1 with Shipton Oliffe.

Meanwhile Presteigne thrashed Knighton 8-2 in the Marches League thanks to goals from Frankie Jones, Jess Goodwin (4), Meg Crosgrove (2) and Charlie Price, while in Division 1 of the South Wales League, Kington lost 5-0 to Cardiff & Met Seconds.
