THE men's hockey season starts this weekend.

In De Cymru & The Marches 1 of the GoCrea8 League, Hereford are home to Lansdown, while Ross-on-Wye and Leominster are away to Cirencester and Stroud respectively.

Leominster go into the game in high spirits after coming from 2-0 down to beat North Somerset 3-2 in their final pre-season friendly.

The hosts, who play two leagues above Leominster, raced into a 2-0 lead despite the Herefordshire club having a good proportion of the play.

But Leominster kicked on after the break and got back into the game thanks to a converted penalty flick by captain Jack Rowsell.

The equaliser then arrived shortly afterwards when Barney Morgan burst into the D to fire a reverse that was deflected home by Jonty Goode.

With the scores level and time running out, Leominster grabbed the winner when James Dunn fired home from a short corner.

Meanwhile, some of our clubs started their West Club's Women's Hockey League campaign last weekend.

Hereford, who were relegated from Premier Division 2A last season, started off with a 4-4 home draw against Cirencester, while Leominster were hammered 12-2 at BAC.

In Severn Division 1, Hereford Seconds were thrashed 14-0 at Cirencester Seconds, while Colwall & Malvern were stuffed 13-1 at Evesham & Badsey in Severn Division 2.

However, Ross-on-Wye picked up a 2-0 win at Cirencester Thirds.
