REPAIR work has this week taken place at the municipal golf course in Hereford.
As reported by the Hereford Times in June, cracks opened up on the greens at the site to leave the putting area ‘unplayable’.
The course is run by Hereford Leisure Centre and sits inside the city's racecourse.
“We are the first to acknowledge that the quality of the golf course is not at the standard we or our customers expect,” said Hereford Leisure Centre general manager Matt Smith.
“Our greenkeepers are working with maintenance company High Ground Maintenance who specialise in improving sports grounds to improve the playing surface which includes cutting, spraying to control the weeds and hollow coring.
“The cores will be cleared, seeded and fertilised before the greens are spiked again, reseeded and then top dressed.
“The addition of a bale cover on all the greens will help the germination process and keep rabbits at bay.”
Smith confirmed that planning permission has been granted for a borehole to supply a sprinkler system to help revive the course and deliver lush greens.
