ANDY Bevan has brought in a new striker at Westfields as his side face a backlog of fixtures which will see them play 11 games in 24 days.

Due to a winter of snow and waterlogged pitches Bevan's side have seen six games postponed since Christmas leaving a host of matches needing to be played by April 28.

They start at local rivals Worcester City tonight (Thursday)- their first of three away fixtures in the next six days.

City won the reverse fixture 4-2 at allpay.park earlier this season but Bevan is full of confidence ahead of the game

"We are going there full of beans especially with the way we have been playing and training on Tuesday and Thursday, said Bevan.

"The tempo has been fantastic and despite them having a chance of going up we are targetting a top six finish so will go there to put on a performance.

"In the reverse fixture we only had one substitute while they had three which at this level has an effect."

Bevan has bolstered his squad this week with the signing of Hartpury College striker Seth Antwi following international clearance.

"We were delighted to be told that we had got the signing over the line," Bevan added.

"Sean Edwards has watched him a couple of times playing for the college with the lads we already have.

"He hasn't played senior football yet but that's not going to be a problem with his close control and flair.

"The biggest thing is that it's another body with the amount of games we have coming up. I think from now on all the games will be on.

"Playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday is going to be extremely tough as we have all got lives outside of football with family and work.

"Going away you get in late and then work so you're tired and the next day you're playing again. So it's going to be an extremely demanding time and it's going to be chaotic."

Last Wednesday Westfields were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Rocester.

Bevan's side thought they had increased their lead when a Phil Glover shot from outside the penalty area was cleared off the line by a Rocester defender. The visitors then broke away and equalised with a cracking goal from Martin Smythe who beat Keiron Blackburn with a low angled drive to earn themselves a point.

Westfields, without the suspended Matt Sysum and James Febery, got off to a tremendous start when Aidan Thomas cut in from the left and laid on a pass to Craig Jones who finished perfectly with a left-foot shot to put Westfields ahead in the 10th minute.

Meanwhile the Annual Westfields Golf Day will take place on Thursday, May 3, at Burghill Valley Golf Club.

Teams of four are invited to enter the competition which includes an evening meal and an array of prizes.

Entries can be made at Andrew Morris Estate Agents, 1 Bridge Street, Hereford, HR4 9DF, telephone 266775.
