THE changing of the weather matched Westfields fortunes as they upset promotion hopefuls and picked up three back-to-back victories under new manager Andy Bevan.

Prior to last weekend's 2-1 win at Stourport Swifts the allpay.park outfit were sliding down the Midlands Premier following four defeats.

However, a convincing 2-0 home win against Sporting Khalsa on Wednesday was followed by an away 2-1 win at Rugby Town on Saturday.

"What a difference a week makes with all that snow gone and picking up three wins from three," said Bevan.

"It has been a superb week and before the run of games we went back to the shape we had at the start of the previous season when I first came here.

"We were hard to break down and even when we were at our lowest we knew how close we were to success."

It was Rugby who took an early lead when leading league goalscorer, David Kolodynski, volleyed home his 25th league goal of the season.

Westfields, who had to defend for long periods, drew level on the half hour when Carlos Moreira was brought down just outside the penalty area and Craig Jones rifled home a fierce left-footed free-kick to level.

Jones was on target again on the 53rd minute when Aidan Thomas saw a powerful left-foot shot parried by Niall Cooper and Jones raced in to hammer the rebound

"When they took the lead I wasn't overly worried and we went in at half-time and stuck to our game plan, the players knew what to do and frustrated them," added Bevan.

"We didn't press them but they couldn't break us down and eventually ran out of ideas."

Bevan said that due to squad 'cut backs' and their recent form he is now targetting a top eight finish.

Winger Moreira, who has recently re-joined Westfields from Bartestree, was on the goal sheet against Khalsa following a Mark Magee penalty.

Bevan also has options in goal to choose from with Keiron Blackburn returning from an injury which has put him out of action since January's 4-1 FA Vase defeat in which time Alex Harris has held the number one jersey.

Bevan added: "We have now got two quality goalkeepers in Alex and Keiron so the problem we have got is keeping them both happy but with our run of games that won't be a problem."
