TEN men Westfields turned their fortunes around with a late winner against Stourport Swifts to the delight of manager Andy Bevan.

The outcome looked very different prospect for Westfields as Alex Harris was forced into an early penalty save before James Febery, who conceded the penalty, was then given a deserved 11th minute red card for a dangerous tackle.

Westfields kept their shape defensively and broke the deadlock after 52 minutes when Sam Gwynne got down the right flank and created an opening for Craig Jones who slotted home a left-foot drive from the end of the box.

With something to hold onto Westfields worked hard until the 75th minute when Sam Mendes was guilty of a poor pass which was intercepted and Stourport substitute Jack Rogers raced clear before firing low past Harris into the bottom corner.

With the snow coming down heavily Westfields mounted pressure and Bevan played his ace card with the introduction of striker Kingsford Adjei.

Their deserved winner came two minutes from time when a high cross came into the penalty area and Matt Sysum headed the ball down to Adjei who flicked the ball into the roof of the net.

"It was just the way things are going at the moment to coceded a penalty and go down to 10 men early on," said Bevan.

"But we put our backs against the wall and got something out of it. I was confident we could as we have worked all week on our shape and quite bizarrely our training was based around having 10 players.

"After they equalised I still felt we could get something and Kingsford gives us excellent pace. I thought he could stretch the game down the middle and fortunately it worked.

"I think with the run we were on we were as low as we could be luck is always closer than you think and the lads put in a tremendous effort to turn things around."
