GOALKEEPER Matt Gwynne admitted his Worcester City team got him out of jail after he let in a soft goal against former club Westfields.

There looked little danger when Gwynne gathered Richard Greaves' 30-yard cross, but the stopper could only fumbled the ball into the net.

"It's something that happens one in 100 times and is the usual bread and butter stuff that you rely on doing easily," said Gwynne.

"The main thing was we came away with the result and the type of one that wins leagues.

"They are a good side and it's like the same every year, they like to play football and if you let them, they will pick you off.

"Our game plan was to get in their faces and stop them playing.

"I don't think they should be where they are in the league and should be further up.

"They have got the same lads when I was here plus a few more and their league position doesn't reflect on what a side they are."

The sides went into half time level pegging at 2-2 following a mad first half before two late Lee Hughes goals won the game for Worcester at the death,

"The first half was always going to be a bit manic with two good sides and teams that like to play football," added Gwynne.

"But it showed a lot of character going 1-0 down so early and to get back into the game and then for me to do what I did.

"We then came back again and in the second half, I thought we were better team by a long way and eventually we got the goals to seal it.

"I think the main thing is that we can play for the 90 minutes and when you've got players like Hughesy that he will get a goal out of nothing.

"But we've got quality all through the squad and had a strong bench.

"Everyone is competing for places, which is a good thing."

Gwynne started as Worcester's number one this season before Nathan Vaughan came in.

"I started the season but recently Vaughany has come in, who is a top class keeper," said Gwynne.

"So it's one of those where you've just got to be patient and learn off Nathan.

"But to be fair, he has taught me a lot and when I do get my chance, I've got try and put a claim in.

"I thought, apart from the mistake, my performance was ok but it's obviously disappointing to make a mistake like that."
