THE referee has passed a second inspection at allpay.park meaning that tonight's match between Westfields and Worcester City will go ahead.

Overnight rain had left the pitch saturated, but it is currently in good condition.

Westfields are playing catch up in the Midland Football League Premier Division and saw last Saturday's game against Heanor Town called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

"We wanted Saturday's game on because we had a full squad available, apart from Phil Glover and Sam Gwynne, who were suspended, and Alex Hainault, who was ill," said Westfields joint manager Sean Edwards.

"Andy [Morris] went down at 8am and the pitch was playable but at 10.30am it wasn't and to be fair, when I went down at 1.30pm, there was no way the game could have gone ahead."

Former Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne is set to be in goal for the match, while ex-Kidderminster and Forest Green Rovers striker Lee Hughes should lead the line.

Tyler Weir, who used to play for Hereford United, is also in the Worcester ranks, as is Brad Birch, who has starred for Westfields and Bromyard Town.

Westfields are currently 10th in the Midland Football League Premier Division, but with games in hand.

Edwards believes anyone could win the league.

"I think the team that wins it will have the lowest ever points tally," he said.
