PEGASUS Juniors broke Hereford's stranglehold on the under-18s Herefordshire FA Giantkillers by beating them 3-1 at Edgar Street.

Lewis Craddock opened the scoring after just five minutes for the Old School Lane side who then impressed with a fine defensive display.

Hereford tried to respond with Jack Marston seeing his close-range effort fly over and goalkeeper Oliver Meadows denying James Hancocks after being played through one-on-one.

On the other hand Pegasus were ruthless in front of goal and Keiron Dallow rose highest to double their lead on 55 minutes.

The young Bulls played their way back into the tie and forced Meadows into another close range save before pulling a goal back when Charlie Greenhouse saw his effort denied by the bar and Luke Firkin prodded the deflection home with 20 minutes remaining.

However, it was to be Peggy's night and Dylan Jones sealed the victory with six minutes remaining shooting low into the net.

"It was a superb game and everybody enjoyed it," said Pegasus Juniors under-18 manager Steve Evans.

"It's always nice to get to a final and somebody has got to win and lose which you have got to remember. We were chuffed to bits to win as on paper we weren't expected too.

"I said to the first team manager before the game that they (Hereford) were going to come at our flanks so I tried to play wing backs which allowed us to have five in midfield and five at the back and it couldn't have worked any better.

"The three lads at the back were phenomenal and didn't let too much past them."

Pegasus Juniors under-18s currently play in the Midlands Floodlight Youth League Southern Division alongside academy sides Gloucester City and Kidderminster Harriers.

"We hold our own but it is not always possible to have a big squad due to college and work commitments," added Evans.

"It's all about keeping the lads playing and three or four of our team have been playing for Pegasus since they were six years old."
