THE PYRAMID structure which sees our county teams compete at non-league step five and six could be changed ahead of the new season.

Westfields, Wellington, Lads Club and Pegasus are due to find out this week which league the Football Association has placed them in the following a restructure.

It is thought that Westfields could be switched to the Hellenic Football League Premier while the other three could be placed in the Hellenic Football League West.

Once a decision has been made by the FA teams will have until June 8 to put in any requests.

Wellington manager Gary Stevens said he wouldn’t oppose the changes following a delayed end to their West Midlands Premier season due to postponed matches.

“We don’t know what the FA are going to do but if we go then we go,” said Stevens.

“We will just have to look at who else is in there but travel wise it is not much different just different routes and pitches.

“It would be a learning curve as the players know the West Midlands Premier where as if it all goes ahead we will only know four teams in that league.

“Years ago the Helenic league used to be a different style of play and it wasn’t as brutal but just as competitive.

“I don’t know if that has changed and there are a few teams I’ve never heard of. We will look at the teams but don’t want to be any lower down the football pyramid.

“Equally we’ve had our problems with the West Midlands league this year where teams ground share. If we get the bad weather like this winter it causes a problem.

“Over the next few days I will get a reaction from the players as we still have to get a team.”

Westfields manger Andy Bevan said a side-ways move in the pyramid wouldn’t make the league any easier.

His side could be pitted up against Lydney Town and Bishop’s Cleeve amongst others.

“It’s like anything there will be two or three sides going for it so it’s not going to get any easier,” said Westfields manager Andy Bevan.

“But that is the same in our league at the moment. It would give us some new places to go and would suite our footballing way more.”
