Leyton Orient 1 Hereford United 1 Hereford win 3-2 on penalties HEREFORD United goalkeeper Adam Bartlett proved himself worthy of assuming the Superman tag carried by his predecessor Wayne Brown with an heroic performance in the Bulls’ Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win at Brisbane Road.

The former Kidderminster stopper pulled off a number of fine saves during the 90 minutes but reserved his astonishing best for the penalty shoot-out.

Bulls skipper Bartlett, after being beaten by the first two spot-kicks, then saved the next three to ensure that the Bulls progressed to the Southern Area semi-final.

Keeping their nerve to beat Bartlett’s Orient counterpart Jamie Jones were Keith Lowe, Kenny Lunt and Gavin McCallum.

Hereford had come within a whisker of progressing automatically to the competition’s final eight.

Leon Constantine finished off some good work by McCallum to give United a 25th minute lead.

And some good defending seemed to have assured United’s progress until Jason Demetriou struck three minutes into stoppage time to take the tie into a shoot-out.

Hereford return to London on Saturday for a League 2 clash when they travel to Underhill to take on Barnet when Sam Gwynne (dead leg), Ryan Valentine (groin) and Marc Pugh (groin) may be back in contention for a place.
