WELLINGTON Rangers overcame their nerves to take the Herefordshire County League Premier Division on the final day of the season.

Welly went into the tie knowing that they needed a victory against Hinton in their final league game to deny Westfields Reserves the title.

With the game goalless and finely balanced at the break a second half brace from Nick Britton settled his side's nerves before Glenn Segust netted the third.

"We made hard work of it but did enough on the day," said joint manager Chris Evans alongside Kit Williams.

"I looked at it with five games left and thought that we had a chance as Westfields had some tough games playing in hand on us. We have been on a great run and luckily for us some results have gone our way. Going back I originally said at the start of the season that we were the team to beat which has come true as I predicted.

"We have had a good bunch of players and we just believed that we could do it. We were near the bottom last year but we (Evans and Williams) came in and brought a few players with us and turned it around.

"They were players we knew, some used to play for Wellington who we got back in and players we played with in the past who we could trust."

It was a great weekend for Wellington as their Colts side clinched the Ron Ellis Cup on penalties following a 2-2 draw with Orleton Reserves.
